Notre Histoire · Est. 2017

We Started with
Five Bikes and
a Pickup Truck.

Aldea Bikes began in La Veleta in 2017 when our founders noticed that every tourist was either renting tired bikes from overpriced shops in Centro or doing without entirely. The idea was simple: bring good bikes, free, to wherever people were staying. Aujourd'hui nous avons 70 vélos, a van, a great team, and a community of guests who come back every year.

The Full Story

From Five Bikes in a Garage to Tulum's Best-Rated Rental Service

It started the way most good things do — with a problem nobody else was solving. In 2017, our founders Carlos and Sofía were living in La Veleta and watching visitors struggle. The bikes in Centro were overpriced and in poor condition. Nobody delivered. Nobody spoke French. And every guest they met was asking the same thing: "Where can I get a good bike?"

They bought five cruisers with personal savings, loaded them into a borrowed pickup truck, and started delivering to Airbnbs in Aldea Zama. Word spread fast. Within three months, they had 20 bikes and a waiting list. By the end of the first high season, they had 40.

Today, Aldea Bikes has a fleet of 70 well-maintained bikes, a dedicated delivery van, and a small team of people who genuinely love what they do. Our head mechanic, Luis, personally inspects every bike before it leaves. Our customer contact, Marie, handles all English and French communications. Carlos still does a large portion of the deliveries himself — he likes meeting guests.

We've never raised our delivery fee above zero. We've never turned away a guest because their address was hard to find. And we've never stopped believing that the best way to see Tulum is from the saddle of a well-maintained beach cruiser, delivered right to your door.

What We Stand For

Three Things We Never Compromise On

🤝
Honest Pricing
The price on the website is the price you pay. No delivery fee, no card surcharge, no fuel levy, no small print. We decided early on that transparency builds the kind of trust that makes people come back — and recommend us to their friends.
🌿
Good for Tulum
We hire locally, pay fairly, and reinvest in the community we live in. Bikes are good for Tulum — less traffic, less carbon, more connection to the jungle and the sea. We see ourselves as part of the slow tourism movement that's keeping the real Tulum alive.
